Seattle Finally Has Opponent on Run, 11-5

The Mariners finally rediscovered some offensive pop as Alex Rodriguez homered and Mike Cameron had three RBIs to help Seattle defeat the Chicago White Sox, 11-5, Saturday night at Seattle, only their second victory in 12 games.
John Halama (11-6)--pitching for the first time in 10 days--gave up a single to Frank Thomas with two out in the first inning and then retired 16 batters in a row before Tony Graffanino opened the seventh with a single.
Trailing, 7-0, Chicago scored five runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Paul Konerko, an RBI single by Herbert Perry and a two-run single by Charles Johnson.
Tampa Bay 4-0, Baltimore 1-2--After Tampa Bay relied on the long ball to win the opener, the Orioles used a couple of bunts to gain a split at Baltimore.
Jerry Hairston broke up a scoreless duel with a suicide squeeze in the eighth inning to give Baltimore the win.
In the first game, Greg Vaughn broke out of a slump with a two-run homer and Fred McGriff homered in his record-tying 37th park to give Tampa Bay the victory.
Boston 5, Kansas City 3--Brian Daubach homered in a four-run first inning and Nomar Garciaparra, after sitting out three games because of a pulled left hamstring, had three hits and scored two runs at Kansas City. Mo.
Daubach’s homer to right off Brian Meadows (2-2) made it 2-0, and Scott Hatteberg added a two-run single.
Toronto 9, Texas 3--Joey Hamilton gave up two runs and four hits over six innings in winning for the first time in more than a year.
Shannon Stewart matched his career high with four hits in the game at Arlington, Texas.
The Blue Jays took a 4-1 lead with a three-run second against rookie Brian Sikorski (1-2), helped by third baseman Mike Lamb’s error.
Detroit 8, Minnesota 2--Steve Sparks won his fifth consecutive decision and Deivi Cruz and Damion Easley homered at Minneapolis.
Sparks (5-2) went 7 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out six.
Two errors by Minnesota third baseman Corey Koskie and Cruz’s three-run homer helped the Tigers break it open in the sixth.
