Highland High, the region’s top-ranked wresting team by The Times, is seeded No. 2 for the Southern Section Division IV dual-meet playoffs Saturday at St. John Bosco High in Bellflower.
The Golden League-champion Bulldogs (32-3-1) open the 16-team, one-day tournament against Ontario. Highland defeated the Jaguars, 52-21, earlier this season.
Competition begins at 11 a.m.
“I think it’s going to be a pretty tough tournament,” Coach Mike Young of Highland said. “You’ve got to be up for each round.”
Highland, which is led by 103-pounder Mike Estrada (45-5) and 215-pounder Tony Callahan (41-7), will be without senior Nick Facciola.
Facciola, a 152-pounder, is out for the season because of a shoulder injury.
The Bulldogs, Division IV champions in 1997, reached the quarterfinals last season.
Golden League runner-up Quartz Hill (22-2) is seeded No. 8 and faces Barstow. Pacific View South champion Camarillo (13-1) competes against Alta Loma.
Ventura (13-5), champion of the Pacific View North, and Oxnard compete in the Division I tournament at Villa Park.
Thousand Oaks and Agoura qualified for the Division III tournament at Corona Centennial.
