San Clemente public works, police and other employees who were on standby New Year’s Eve to handle any safety or utility problems were left with little to do when the dreaded Y2K moment went by without a hitch.
“Basically, [the emergency personnel] were just monitoring the different systems the city has,” said a city official. “They were doing some manual inspections and that was it. As soon as everything seemed to be working, we did one last check and went home.”
