Attorney in Los Alamos Case Quits

John Kelly, the U.S. attorney in Albuquerque who has been handling the prosecution of a fired Los Alamos scientist accused of mishandling nuclear secrets, said he is resigning and turning the Wen Ho Lee case over to a deputy. John Dendahl, who heads the state Republican Party, said he had been told that Kelly, 52, a Democrat, plans to run for Republican Heather Wilson’s seat in the 1st Congressional District. Democratic state chairwoman Diane Denish, who has talked to Kelly in the last few days, said: “It’s my understanding he’s looking very seriously at running and will announce his decision shortly.”
