Panamanian first lady Ruby Young and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Harmodio Arias will visit Thurston Middle School on Friday.
The visit comes in response to letters written by students congratulating Panama on receiving ownership of the Panama Canal and suggesting ways to reuse the former Fort Clayton Army base in the former U.S. Canal Zone. In December, 70 students from Spanish teacher David Dixon’s class sent letters to President Myreya Moscoso expressing their hopes for continued goodwill between the two nations.
