Sister Eileen McNerny will be honored as Woman of the Year for the 69th Assembly District at a ceremony Monday at the state Capitol. McNerny was selected by Assemblyman Lou Correa (D-Anaheim) for dedicating her life to helping undereducated and unskilled youths ages 18 to 25.
The Santa Ana woman is the founding director of Taller San Jose, a center that provides education and job training for youths. McNerny, a nun with the Sisters of St. Joseph since 1957, serves on the boards of St. Joseph Hospital in Orange and Hands Together, a child care center in Santa Ana. She also currently serves as chair of the Workforce Advisory Committee for the Santa Ana Empowerment Zone.
