Victory by Agoura Is Almost Single-Handed

Tim Mullane and Amir Nejad recorded sweeps and Agoura High held on to defeat West Torrance, 82-73, on games, in the first round of the Southern Section Division III tennis playoffs on Thursday at West Torrance.
The teams tied in sets, 9-9, but the Chargers (13-5) gained the edge in games because of strong singles play.
Mullane, Nejad and Chris Wilkinson each played one set without losing a game.
Mullane, playing at No. 1, won his sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, and No. 2 Nejad recorded 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 victories.
West Torrance (13-5) dominated in doubles, winning seven of nine sets.
In another Division III match:
Westlake 18, Loara 0--Alex Yaftali, Narbi Zoharbe and Garrett Wong did not lose a game in singles for the Warriors at Loara.
Jackson Ellis and Allen Kim lost only one game at No. 3 doubles for Westlake (19-0).
Loara finished 15-6.
DIVISION I
Harvard-Westlake 18, Hoover 0--Andrew Rosenfeld, Aron Gortman and Jesse Ferlianto did not give up a game in nine singles sets for the Wolverines (23-3-1) at Fremont Park in Glendale.
DIVISION II
Thousand Oaks 18, Lancaster 0--Serge Mitrofanov and Jayme Reynolds swept three opponents by 6-0 scores at No. 1 doubles for the Lancers at Antelope Valley College.
Mitrofanov and Reynolds have played only the last three dual matches together, but are 9-0 in sets.
Philip Sheng (34-1) registered three victories at No. 1 singles for the Lancers (14-5), who play Irvine University in the quarterfinals Tuesday. It will be a rematch of last year’s semifinal, which Thousand Oaks lost on games after the teams tied, 9-9.
Burbank 14, Pacific 4--Tigran Martirosyan (53-1) did not surrender a game at No. 1 singles, and Eugene Shin and Min Kang swept at No. 2 doubles for the Bulldogs (19-2) at Pacific.
DIVISION IV
Calabasas 11, Bonita 7--Nick Weiss (38-2) lost only two games at No. 1 singles for the Coyotes (15-5) at Bonita.
Braden Aftergood and Trevor Hinden swept at No. 1 doubles for the Coyotes (15-5).
La Canada 12, Culver City 6--Scott Patterson did not lose a game at No. 1 singles and the Spartans (14-5) won eight of nine doubles sets at the La Canada Country Club.
DIVISION V
Campbell Hall 11, Windward 7--Adam Zunder swept at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Ross Erlich and Michael Shrage surrendered two games in three sets for the Vikings at Valley College.
