Re “State Controller Says Mistake Will Cost County $7 Million,” Nov. 21.
How convenient for the incumbent Ventura County supervisor that yet another county multimillion-dollar mistake was hidden from the public and, therefore, not reported until after her election campaign was over and won.
Also, this retirement of county elected officials so the Board of Supervisors can appoint a successor is questionable. [Tom Mahon] ran for auditor two years ago, telling us that even though he was pretty old, he had a commitment to go for four more years. Here we are, two years later, and he’s going to quit so the hand-picked one can be appointed.
I think we really need to look at that and have a special election to give the guy who wanted the job badly enough to give Mahon a run for his money at least half a chance.
