Proposition F

Arthur Sweet’s recent letter (“Proposition F,” Letters to the Valley Edition, Sept. 24) declaiming Proposition F, a bond act to replace outdated fire stations, replace the emergency helicopter and air operations and maintenance facility, and repair and / or replace existing animal services facilities, implies opposition to the measure by the United Chambers of Commerce.
In fact, the UCC Governmental Affairs Committee, at its Sept. 19 meeting, voted to support Proposition F.
The vote would have been unanimous save for the sole nay cast by Sweet.
Sweet is entitled to his personal opinion, but to use his affiliation with a large organization to bolster support for it is not only misleading, but totally inappropriate.

On Oct. 11, the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley held its monthly delegates meeting. At this meeting, a vote was taken whether to approve Proposition F. A majority of the delegates present voted in favor of this measure, thereby confirming the United Chambers of Commerce’s support.
The opinion of the chamber representatives, a delegation of 23 member chambers representing about 8,500 members, is that this measure will reduce response time in cases of emergencies, add capacity to existing fire stations and further the service to our community.
It is our hope that sufficient safeguards will be implemented so that the money raised is spent propitiously and that the results are as optimistic as the proponents suggest.
J. RICHARD LEYNER
