A dozen Palme d’Or winners from Cannes have gone on[for two of the films, not really accurate] to land Academy Award nominations for best picture: “Marty” (1955); “Friendly Persuasion” (1956--at Cannes, 1957); “MASH” (1970); “The Conversation” (1974); “Taxi Driver” (1976); “Apocalypse Now” (1979); “All That Jazz” (1979--at Cannes, 1980); “Missing” (1982); “The Mission” (1987); “The Piano” (1993); “Pulp Fiction” (1994); “Secrets & Lies” (1996). Only “Marty” took home the Oscar.
