Bush Budget Defeat Is Possible, Daschle Says

Some Senate Republicans are seriously wavering on President Bush’s budget, and its problematic $1.6-trillion tax cut could die in the Senate this week, leading Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle said.
“I’m encouraged by the reports--just in the last 48 hours--that the Republicans publicly acknowledge they don’t have the votes today,” Daschle, the Senate minority leader, said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “So we think there is a possibility that we could defeat the budget resolution.”
