Lam Research Corp., which makes tools that create circuits on semiconductors, said its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings won’t meet forecasts and it will eliminate about 600 jobs, or 15% of its work force, because of slowing sales. The company now expects to post earnings of 15 cents a share. Analysts on average were expecting 21 cents. . . . LSI Logic Corp. said it will close a plant in Colorado that employs about 500 people because of slowing demand. Some employees will be offered transfers to another plant. . . . Loudeye Technologies Inc. said it’s firing 135 employees, or 45% of its work force, in a restructuring to lower costs. . . . Internet consultant Scient Corp. said its fiscal fourth-quarter loss will be more than triple forecasts and it will fire 675 employees, about 52% of its work force, because of canceled orders. The San Francisco-based company plans to close its offices in Los Angeles and New Jersey and will move its headquarters to New York.
