NBA Telecast to Be on Web

Sports fans have the chance today to watch a live National Basketball Assn. game on the Internet for the first time ever--and the last time this season. RealNetworks will Webcast the 5:30 p.m. game between the Sacramento Kings and the Dallas Mavericks, providing separate feeds for high-speed connections and dial-up modems. The picture quality won’t match a TV broadcast, but users will be able to do two things with the Webcast that they can’t do with a telecast: They can pan, tilt and zoom the cameras at will, and they can create customized highlight reels after the end of each quarter. The 360-degree camera technology comes from Be Here Corp. of Los Angeles, and the highlights technology comes from Convera of San Jose.
