Re “Off-Roaders Swamp Dunes; 2 Die,” Nov. 27: Of the estimated 200,000 off-road enthusiasts who visited Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area over Thanksgiving, you stated 200 were injured and 50 were arrested. Statistically, 0.125% of the visitors had problems, and 99.875% didn’t.
High school football, swimming, bicycling, skateboarding and roller-blading all have higher fatality rates per 100,000 than using off-road vehicles. Hollywood has foisted the “one-percenter” image on street motorcyclists; now you attempt to foist a “0.1-percenter” stereotype on off-roaders to kick them off of taxpayer-owned land.
