Cal State Northridge women’s basketball coach Frozena Jerro resigned Saturday.
Jerro, 30, announced her resignation during an afternoon practice. Athletic Director Dick Dull said the team’s assistants, Paula Nirschl-Montgomery and Ken Turner, will share coaching duties until a new coach is hired.
In Jerro’s first season at Northridge in 1998-99, the Matadors went 21-8, won the Big Sky Conference and earned an NCAA tournament berth. Northridge went 18-10 the next season, but finished 9-18-1 last season before an 0-5 start this season.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished with the women’s program at Northridge and coaching our first-ever NCAA tournament season was the highlight of my coaching career,” Jerro said in a release. “I want the Northridge women’s team to continue that success and I hope my stepping down will give the program a chance for a fresh start.”
