Senior Julie Allen of Corona del Mar High placed 11th in the girls’ race of the national cross-country championships at Oak Trail Course at Shades of Green in Orlando. Fla., on Saturday.
Allen, who ran 17 minutes 50 seconds over the 5,000-meter course, earned third-team All-American honors with her performance in the race that featured the top eight finishers from the West, Midwest, Northeast and South regionals.
“I’m pretty happy,” Allen said about her effort. “But you usually can look back on a race and see something you could have done better.... I do feel like it was definitely possible to finish in the top five.”
Senior Amber Trotter of Ukiah High in Northern California placed first in 16:24 to smash the course record by 31 seconds and cap an undefeated season.
