Refugees Break Into Chunnel, Halt Traffic
- Share via
About 150 refugees got past French security personnel at the Chunnel entrance to try to reach Britain overnight, halting passenger and freight train traffic, officials said.
British police, who joined the hunt with sniffer dogs, said the French appeared to have tracked down and detained all the refugees.
No one was injured in the incident. The tunnel was expected to reopen later today.
The nationalities of the refugees were not immediately known, but a nearby Red Cross center houses illegal immigrants from Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
