Joe H. Ante; Longtime County Resident

Longtime Ventura County resident Joe H. Ante died Tuesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura following a sudden illness. He was 85.
He was born June 25, 1915, in Mexico and moved to Santa Paula with his family when he was about 2 months old.
He served in the Army during World War II and also in Korea with the 340th Engineering Construction Battalion.
For more than 32 years, Ante worked at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme.
He was a charter member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 339 of Ventura. Ante enjoyed traveling, but his family was most important to him, especially his grandson and his grandson’s two children.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mercedes; daughter Linda Jimenez of Ventura, and sister Eleanor Arellano of Santa Paula. He is also survived by grandson Vince Jimenez and great-granddaughters Evanne Jimenez and Kobie Jimenez of Ventura. Ante was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert, in 1961.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
