It’s Going to Be Tough to Walk This One Off

I found the recent article about USC’s treatment of walk-on basketball players very disgusting.
However, I am not surprised. By all accounts, Henry Bibby treated his own child like a walk-on son.

I am appalled and outraged at Henry Bibby’s disgustingly classless treatment of his walk-on players. I am the parent of a scholarship athlete at a Pac-10 school, and I would yank her off that team faster than you can say “egotistical moron” if I heard that her coach didn’t treat his walk-ons with basic human kindness and dignity. No wonder that we are producing such immature, immoral young athletes.

I’d give my left eye to play basketball for USC. I would wear a uniform to the arena and buy my own ticket if I was asked to and I was going to be on the court from time to time. I agree that Bibby handled this badly, but if you walk on to a top-25 team and get to play at times, you should consider yourself blessed. I wish you had realized how good you had it.
Moral of the story, when it’s an hour before game time, only discuss the game with the coach, nothing else.
