One Out of Three

Why didn’t The Times cover Marino Formenti’s LACMA recital series? The three recitals collectively surveyed the entire 20th century, addressing the first, middle and final third of the 100-year span.
Mark Swed’s Feb. 7 review of the first recital, while better than nothing, missed the forest, so to speak (“On Piano, Formenti Sets Off to Explore the Heavens and Earth”). The arc of the recital series was the real story, not just the first concert, which was in many respects the least interesting of the three.
