A 2-year-old Las Vegas boy was found drowned in a swimming pool Saturday morning at the home in Orange where he and his family were visiting, authorities said.
Though the death of Dresden Diaz appeared to be an accident, police said, they are investigating. An autopsy was expected to be completed today.
“At this point there’s no reason to believe it wasn’t accidental,” Orange police Lt. John Higley said.
The child, his mother, Tina Diaz, and an older sister were visiting friends on Sycamore Avenue. The boy went to bed about 10 p.m. Friday and was checked on about 2 a.m., Higley said.
The owner of the home where the family was staying told police he woke up about 7 a.m. and found the sliding glass door leading to the back yard open and the child in the pool.
The boy was taken by Orange Fire Department paramedics to Chapman Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:10 a.m.
