St. Bonaventure took a big step toward dethroning Oak Park as Tri-Valley League champion with a 62-58 overtime victory over the Eagles on Friday at St. Bonaventure.
The Seraphs (12-5, 3-0) did it with a balanced offense and a tough defense.
Although Oak Park center Jeremy Murphy scored 33 points, no other Eagle player scored more than 12.
Steve Tarin of St. Bonaventure scored 19 points. Wade DeSmidt had 16 points and nine rebounds, Chris Saunders scored 13 and Whitney Lewis had 12 points and nine assists.
Oak Park (12-8, 1-2) also lost a league game to Fillmore last week, breaking a seven-game winning streak.

Santa Clara has benefited from the emergence of forward Alex Minney, a transfer from Ventura.
Minney is averaging 10 points and 10 rebounds in 16 games for the Saints (7-10, 2-1 in the Frontier League).
Minney has provided an effective complement to shooting guard Albert Soria, who has made 62 of 127 three-point shots.
