Tornado Moves Through Desert Area

A tornado moved through a desert area of southeastern California near Joshua Tree National Park on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The slow-moving funnel cloud was visible about two miles west of Twentynine Palms from 12:30 to 12:50 p.m. Other strong thunderstorm activity hit the same area, about 130 miles east of Los Angeles, about one hour later.
The National Weather Service said the renewed storm also had the potential to produce tornado activity.
San Bernardino County authorities reported that at least two homes sustained light damage from high winds while the tornado swirled nearby.
One home lost a patio cover and part of its roof. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said heavy rains caused some flooding in low-lying parts of the Joshua Tree and Landers areas, and urged residents to beware of flash flooding.
