Public Law Center Honors a Founder

Twenty years ago, Warren J. Ferguson of Fullerton, then newly appointed to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, helped found Amicus Publico, a group of volunteer attorneys helping poor people with legal problems. That group eventually became the Santa Ana-based Public Law Center. At a dinner last week, the center honored Ferguson, still on the federal bench, with its first Founders Award.

The center’s Attorney of the Year award went to John P. Miller of Anaheim, a former Los Angeles County prosecutor who later became managing partner of the Orange County office of the Morris Polich & Purdy law firm. Since his retirement in October, Miller has volunteered to handle dozens of cases for the Public Law Center.
