U.S. Calls Talks a ‘Useful’ Start

The State Department said a meeting between its special envoy Jack Pritchard and Li Hyong Chol, North Korea’s permanent representative to the U.N., had been a “useful” start and that dialogue with the secretive Communist state will continue.
Department spokesman Philip T. Reeker described the New York meeting as businesslike but offered no details about the content of the discussion.
The talks marked Pritchard’s first face-to-face meeting with the North Koreans at this level since President Bush took office and ordered a review of policy toward Pyongyang.
