Bishop Amat Selected Top Prep Baseball Team

Bishop Amat, which finished 27-2 and won the Southern Section Division IV championship, was selected team of the year by Cal-Hi Sports.
Tom Meusborn of Chatsworth, which finished 31-2 and won the City Section title, was selected coach of the year and pitcher J.P. Howell of Carmichael Jesuit was chosen player of the year.
Pitcher Bobby Paschal of Chaminade was chosen junior of the year. Outfielder Delmon Young of Camarillo was sophomore of the year and pitcher Andy Beal of Peninsula was freshman of the year.
All-state selections include: catchers Brad Davis of Capistrano Valley, Jon De Vries of Irvine and John Hanley of Norte Vista; pitchers Joe Guntz of Chatsworth, Ricky Nolasco of Rialto Eisenhower, A.J. Shappi of Esperanza and Miguel Sanchez of Bishop Amat; infielder Donnie Murphy of Riverside Poly; outfielder Art Ortiz of Lancaster, and multiple-position players Tony Cabral of West Torrance, Ryan Chambers of Yucaipa, Paschal, Adam Simon of Bishop Amat, Brett Smith of Sonora and Bill Susdorf of Hart.
