Gorbachev Hospitalized; Spokesman Cites Fatigue
- Share via
Former Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev was admitted to a Moscow hospital, but a spokesman said he was just suffering from fatigue.
Gorbachev, 70, recently completed a grueling round of trips that had taken a toll, the spokesman said. He said Gorbachev had felt unwell and that during a routine checkup a doctor recommended he be hospitalized.
Gorbachev, who resigned as Soviet leader 10 years ago, now heads a foundation and often travels abroad.
He also recently presided over the founding congress of the Social Democratic Party, which joined his United Social Democratic Party with another social democratic group run by a prominent regional leader.
