Death Penalty Will Not Be Sought in Geise Case

An Ojai man charged with fatally shooting a Ventura grocery clerk during an April robbery attempt will not face the death penalty, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Although evidence shows that Richard Geise and his cousin, Alfonso Delgado, both fired guns during the holdup, it was unclear who fired the fatal shot, prosecutors said.
Geise, 32, has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and nearly a dozen related charges stemming from the April 6 incident at Central Market on Ventura Avenue.
Store employee Alejandro Alvarez, 35, was killed and two co-workers were injured.
Delgado was killed by police in a May shooting.
Geise will be arraigned in Superior Court Dec. 13.
