Twenty-five illegal immigrants were injured when thrown from a pickup truck after the driver crashed trying to evade authorities on a rural road.
Two, including a child, were seriously injured and another adult was critically injured, said Chief Deputy David Prince of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident occurred just after midnight about 20 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border in an area frequently crossed by illegal immigrants. A deputy tried to stop the pickup because it was speeding without its lights on.
