Little Sympathy for German ‘Victims’

Regarding the book about the Wilhelm Gustloff sinking (“We, the Victims Too,” March 18): Yes, it was a tragedy, but there was a war on, in case the Germans forgot. Hard to imagine that, since they started it. And many others suffered a lot worse than the Germans, and because of the Germans. So do I feel bad that the Germans suffered during the war? Let me think ... no, can’t say that I do.

The article about Gunter Grass’ novel about the sinking of a German ship in 1945 in the Baltic Sea with 9,000 fugitives and soldiers carried the headline “We, the Victims Too”: It should have read “We, the Victims Too ... of Hitler.”
