Coca-Cola Co., stung recently when archrival PepsiCo Inc. replaced it as the soft drink partner of United Airlines and the National Football League, struck back with a deal with Delta Air Lines Inc. and five other airline partners.
Coca-Cola, the world’s No. 1 soft drink company, did not disclose the financial value of the marketing and beverage deal. But it said its drinks now would reach about 220 million passengers flying on Delta and its SkyTeam partners Air France, Alitalia, Aeromexico, CSA Czech Airlines and Korean Air Lines.
The deal includes an eight-year extension and expansion of Coca-Cola’s 70-year alliance with Delta.
Shares of Atlanta-based Coca-Cola climbed 87 cents to $54.22 on the NYSE.
