Ordinary People Pay the Price for Tax Honesty
- Share via
“Tax Avoiders Cost About $70 Billion, Senators Are Told” [April 12] talks about the various ways Americans find to cheat on their taxes.
Sen. Max Baucus said, “Everyone should help pull the wagon.... Otherwise, we’ll reach the point where honest taxpayers feel like chumps.”
Guess what? We reached that point long ago. The ordinary taxpayer can’t afford the massive political donations that buy votes for “tax credits” for the biggest of corporations, nor can he or she afford to hire high-priced attorneys and crooked, er, I mean, creative accountants.
So the hoi polloi pulls the wagon harder and harder and longer and longer while the very wealthy and big corporations get a free ride.
