El Segundo High baseball Coach John Stevenson recorded his 900th career victory when the Eagles (9-12) defeated San Pedro, 9-4, in the fourth round of the El Segundo tournament Saturday.
Stevenson, the winningest high school baseball coach in California, has compiled a 900-347 record with 27 league and six Southern Section titles in 43 years at El Segundo.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend my entire career here in El Segundo,” Stevenson said in a statement. “I also want to share this with the approximately 350 Eagle baseball players who earned those wins as well as their parents, my many co-coaches and community coaches. They all have a piece of those 900 wins.”
Two other Southland baseball coaches recorded milestone victories this weekend. Anaheim Esperanza Coach Mike Curran collected his 500th victory when the Aztecs defeated Fountain Valley, 5-3, on Saturday, and West Torrance Coach Harry Jenkins picked up his 600th career victory on Friday when the Warriors beat South Torrance, 7-1.
