NEW ORLEANS — For George Allen’s family and friends, the long wait soon could be over. Allen, the former Ram and Washington Redskin coach, has a solid chance of being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when the selection committee votes here this morning.
Allen is the nominee of the seniors committee, which annually picks one candidate who does not have to go through the same tiered voting procedure as the other 14 finalists.
Allen died in 1990 at age 72.
The other finalists are Baltimore Raven owner Art Modell, former coach Bill Parcells and former players Jim Kelly, Art Monk, John Stallworth, Dave Casper, Harry Carson, Bob Kuechenberg, Ray Guy, James Lofton, L.C. Greenwood, Dan Hampton, Lester Hayes and Donnie Shell.
