From Times Wire Reports
More than three years after three Yosemite National Park tourists were killed, jury selection began Monday in the trial of former motel handyman Cary Stayner, who confessed but pleaded innocent by reason of insanity in hopes of avoiding execution.
Eighty prospective jurors were brought into Santa Clara County Superior Court. Judge Thomas Hastings dismissed 43 because of hardships, and also excused his sister, who had ended up in the pool. The remaining 36 were asked to fill out a questionnaire detailing their knowledge of the case.
