Grandfather Arrested in Knife Attack

A 72-year-old Oxnard resident was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stabbing a man during an argument over his 3-year-old grandson, authorities and family members said.
Abel Chappell was being held Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder stemming from the 7:45 a.m. incident outside his daughter’s apartment in the 200 block of East Yucca Street, police said.
Chappell had gone to his daughter’s home to pick up his grandson when Chappell was confronted outside by the boy’s father, McKeever Davis, 34, of Oxnard, police said.
Davis was in critical condition Tuesday night at a local hospital.
