Ruling Party Declared Winner in Elections

Lesotho’s ruling party was declared the winner of the country’s parliamentary polls, but the opposition said it was cheated.
The Independent Electoral Commission said the Lesotho Congress for Democracy won 77 of 80 contested seats in the 120-seat Parliament. The Lesotho People’s Congress secured one seat, while results in two seats were invalidated because candidates had died.
A proportional representation system gave the Basotho National Party 21 seats, the LPC four and other opposition parties the rest.
