Help Nations Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis
I have followed the coverage of campaign themes, and notably missing is any discussion of alleviating global poverty and its effects. We are on the brink of an international public health calamity, unprecedented in history, if we do not help developing countries fight AIDS and tuberculosis.
Absent a substantial intervention, AIDS will kill as many as 75 million people over the next two decades. Countless children will be orphaned in the process. These are the conditions that destabilize societies and lead to civil unrest and terrorism. It is paramount that the U.S. act decisively and with urgency to ensure that medicines are made available to combat this catastrophe. I will be casting my vote for candidates who will do so.
