Federal Game Officials Should Admit Mistakes

Re “U.S. Denies Blame for Die-Off of Salmon,” Oct. 3:
It is a crying shame that federal agencies won’t stand up and admit their mistakes so they can be avoided in the future. By diverting too much water to farmers, the Fish and Wildlife Service killed 20,000 salmon. Admit it and take steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Fishermen, environmentalists, California wildlife officials and Native American tribes in the area all saw what happened, yet the administration is scrambling to deny any culpability.
It seems to me that these denials occur no matter which party is in office, and all it does is make us more suspicious about our government.
