El Toro Airport May Be Dead, but Debate Isn’t

El Toro will never be an international airport. Enough is enough. It’s time to move on and convert this property to a use that will benefit all the residents of Orange County with people-friendly uses and benefits.

We have become accustomed to the factual distortions of Barbara Lichman and the Airport Working Group of Orange County regarding El Toro Airport. Hard as it is to believe, Ms. Lichman recently reached a new low in her arguments by using Sept. 11, 2001, as a pro-airport argument. To attempt to use national security as an excuse to return El Toro to military status and then sneak a commercial airport in at the same time is pathetic and despicable.

The majority of north Orange County citizens voted against Measure W. If there had been a bigger voter turnout there, Measure W would have gone down in flames. It was only the few South County cities who were frightened out of their wits by misleading airport propaganda and turned out en masse at the polls that made the difference. The vote against Measure W was not representative of the majority of Orange County citizens.
