Boeing Co. is cutting about 200 jobs in the next two months at its Long Beach plant that builds C-17 military cargo jets.
The plant has about 7,000 employees, said spokesman Rick Sanford. Some of those losing jobs may be offered new positions or get rehired, he said.
Boeing won a $9.7-billion Air Force contract for 60 C-17 jets in August. As part of the contract, the firm agreed to lower the price of the aircraft by about 25% from previous orders, Sanford said.
