Visitors Bureau Chief to Stay On Despite Cancer

George Kirkland, the president of L.A. Inc., the Convention and Visitors Bureau, has notified his board of directors that he has been diagnosed with cancer but will continue to head the agency for the foreseeable future, according to a statement issued Friday.
“At the present time, he is consulting with experts to determine the best course of treatment. He is continuing his duties as president uninterrupted,” said Alan I. Rothenberg, board chairman for the bureau.
Kirkland has been president of the bureau since 1989.
