Injured Horse Is Euthanized

Animal control officials said Tuesday that they were forced to euthanize an injured and severely malnourished horse found abandoned near the San Gabriel River in Paramount.
Investigators from the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority said the mare had severely swollen front legs and was at least 150 pounds underweight.
“There’s no excuse” for leaving the animal in such a condition, said Cpl. Charles Miller. Someone “just drove it to an abandoned area and dumped it.”
Officials decided that the 3-year-old mare was too frail to be moved and called veterinarian Sarah Richter. She concluded the horse could not be saved, then injected it with a tranquilizer and a euthanizing solution.
