Cost of Wastewater Project Nearly Doubles

It’s easy to understand why the Geysers wastewater disposal project ballooned from the $102-million cost estimate six years ago to the $200 million it actually wound up costing, officials said.
Work never started on the $102-million version. Instead, an almost completely different project was chosen, costing almost double the original plan and taking two years longer than expected to complete.
The project was expected to begin operation Wednesday.
