San Bernardino police have arrested a man on suspicion of making terrorist threats against a San Bernardino County Sun newspaper reporter who wrote a story about the mental illness and death of the man’s wife.
Stephen Meer, 48, was arrested in the San Bernardino Mountains community of the Valley of Enchantment on Wednesday after Sun reporter Emily Sachs and her editors alleged that he left a threatening message on her voice mail.
Police said Meer made statements such as “so help you die” and “when I burn the place down.” He is being held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
The reporter wrote about Saida Dugally, a homeless woman who died in February in a fire, police said. Dugally’s mental disorder and legal problems were reported in the series “Lost Among Us: How Society Fails the Mentally Ill.”
