From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A series of pounding storms made December the wettest in North Coast history, officials said.
Record rainfall amounts were set in Eureka on Dec. 14 and Dec. 15. Another series of storms occurred between Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. On the Dec. 27, Eureka set a record for 24-hour rainfall for any day ever, in any month -- 6.79 inches.
The heavy rainfall caused urban flooding and many smaller streams overflowed their banks. Normal rainfall for December is 6.04 inches.
