Gemstar Loses Ruling in Patent Dispute
Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc., which develops on-screen program guides for cable television, lost another court ruling in its patent dispute with makers of television set-top boxes.
A federal judge in Atlanta ruled that Scientific-Atlanta Inc., the second-largest maker of set-top boxes, did not infringe two patents owned by Hollywood-based Gemstar. There are other patents owned by the two companies that remain in the case.
Gemstar said that it did not accuse Scientific-Atlanta of infringing those two patents and that the judge’s ruling doesn’t stop Gemstar from pursuing lawsuit claims that other companies infringed the two patents.
