Pinching euros in Avignon

Regarding “Waltzing Into Magical Avignon” (June 29): It’s not necessary to spend a lot of money on a visit to Avignon. The small picture, which shows the rest of the bridge and the papal palace high on the hill, was probably taken from an island in the middle of the Rhone River, and on that island is a huge RV campground. We’ve stayed there several times, and our window had a view not seen from any hotel.
It need not be expensive to eat in Avignon. McDonald’s and the Haagen-Dazs store are on the main street just across from each other, a couple of blocks from the papal palace.
