Advanced Cell Prevails in Cloning Dispute

An appeals panel at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ruled in favor of Advanced Cell Technology Inc. and against Infigen Inc. in their ownership fight over three key animal cloning patents.
The three patent judges said DeForest, Wis.-based Infigen waited too long to challenge the patents held by Worcester, Mass.-based Advanced Cell.
Advanced Cell still faces a significant legal challenge from Menlo Park, Calif.-based Geron Inc., which owns the cloning technology that created Dolly the sheep.
