Phillip Reid of Oxnard Rio Mesa and Bryan Rodie of Simi Valley Royal set meet and stadium records as they won the boys’ 1,600 and 800 meters, respectively, in the rain-drenched Ventura County track and field championships Friday night at Moorpark High.
Reid, a senior who finished second in the 1,600 in the state championships last year, won that event in 4 minutes 13.78 seconds to break the meet and stadium records of 4:15.27 he set last year.
He later won the 3,200 in 9:24.78 to give him his second consecutive 1,600-3,200 double in the county championships and become the first boy to win four consecutive titles in the 3,200.
Rodie, a junior, won the 800 in 1:52.79 to break the meet record of 1:54.30 set by Matthew Torres of Ojai Nordhoff in 1998 and the stadium record of 1:55.50 set by Josh Spiker of Ventura in 2000.
Rodie’s time cut a tenth of a second off the school record he set in winning the Pasadena Games at Pasadena City College in March and moved him to third on the yearly state list in the 800 behind senior Duane Solomon of Lompoc Cabrillo, who has run 1:51.19, and junior Michael Haddan of Irvine Woodbridge, who has clocked 1:52.43.
Seniors Daniella Padilla of Westlake and Sarah Montez of Royal turned in the top performances in the girls’ meet.
Padilla won the 800 in 2:22.20 after winning the 1,600 in 5:09.62.
Montez won the 3,200 in a career-best 11:04.12.
